What is this page for?

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Saccharomyces Boulardii by Moss Nutrition
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Saccharomyces boulardii, a beneficial yeast strain. The capsule itself holds inactive ingredients (hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, L-leucine, and silicon dioxide) that are fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence on Saccharomyces boulardii is promising but not conclusive. Our data marks it as possibly effective for rotaviral diarrhea, travelers' diarrhea, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, necrotizing enterocolitis (a serious bowel condition in newborns), Clostridioides difficile infection (severe bacterial diarrhea), and Helicobacter pylori infection.
That means there's some support for its use, but we can't yet say it works reliably for everyone.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saccharomyces boulardii is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. However, the safety data isn't complete — speak with your doctor before use, especially if you're critically ill, immunocompromised, or have a compromised immune system.
In rare cases, oral use has been linked to fungemia (yeast in the bloodstream), particularly in intensive care unit patients with central lines, feeding tubes, or on broad-spectrum antibiotics, and especially when capsules were opened. Rarely, it's caused stomach upset including cramping, gas, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.

Minor interactions only
If you take antifungal medications, check each one with the drug interaction tool on this page before you start Saccharomyces Boulardii. Antifungals may reduce how well this probiotic works by killing the live yeast.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Saccharomyces boulardii may help with certain types of diarrhea, but the evidence is still developing. If you're healthy and not immunocompromised, it's generally safe — though check with your doctor first.
People who are critically ill or immunocompromised should avoid it. Always talk to your pharmacist before starting, especially if you take antifungals.
