This product has 2 active ingredients. Ubiquinone is the active form of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a compound your cells use to produce energy and defend against oxidative damage.
D-limonene is a naturally occurring compound found in citrus peels. The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients — ethyl oleate, gelatin, polysorbate 80, glycerin, purified water, carob color, D-alpha-tocopherol (a form of vitamin E), and rosemary extract — which serve as the capsule shell and help with absorption and stability.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
CoQ10 is likely effective for treating CoQ10 deficiency. It's possibly effective for fibromyalgia, migraine headache, congestive heart failure (CHF), and diabetic neuropathy.
For D-limonene, the evidence isn't established in the data we hold for cancer or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) — we don't have enough reliable data to rate its effectiveness for those uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
CoQ10 is generally well tolerated by most adults when used as directed. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — appetite suppression, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting — though these occur in less than 1% of people.
Headache, dizziness, and rarely insomnia, cognitive changes, or skin itching have also been reported. D-limonene is generally well tolerated in food amounts, though high-dose supplement safety in humans is limited.
It can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and topical contact dermatitis. There is not enough reliable safety data for either ingredient during pregnancy, so it's best to avoid this product unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Breastfeeding safety for D-limonene has not been well studied — use caution and check with your doctor. For CoQ10, safety while breastfeeding has not been well studied either.

Additionally, ubiquinone may lower blood pressure (Minor severity), so combining it with blood pressure medications could add up to a bigger drop than intended.

D-Limonene
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Inducers
There's preliminary evidence that limonene might be a substrate for cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19). CYP2C19 inducers might decrease the effects of limonene. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Inducers of CYP2C19 include carbamazepine (Tegretol), prednisone (Deltasone), and rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane).
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Inhibitors
There's preliminary evidence that limonene might be a substrate for cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for an increase in the limonene levels when it is taken with drugs that inhibit CYP2C19. Some drugs that inhibit CYP2C19 include cimetidine (Tagamet), fluvoxamine (Luvox), omeprazole (Prilosec); ticlopidine (Ticlid), topiramate (Topamax), and others.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Inducers
There's preliminary evidence that limonene might be a substrate for cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9). Inducers of CYP2C9 might decrease limonene levels. Inducers of CYP2C9 include rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane) and secobarbital (Seconal).
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Inhibitors
There's preliminary evidence that limonene might be a substrate for cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for side effects in patients taking limonene and CYP2C9 inhibitors. Some CYP2C9 inhibitors include amiodarone (Cordarone), fluconazole (Diflucan), lovastatin (Mevacor), paroxetine (Paxil), zafirlukast (Accolate), and many others.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
There's preliminary evidence that limonene might be a substrate for cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9), as well causing its induction. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 in patients taking limonene. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac (Cataflam, Voltaren), ibuprofen (Motrin), meloxicam (Mobic), and piroxicam (Feldene); celecoxib (Celebrex); amitriptyline (Elavil); warfarin (Coumadin); glipizide (Glucotrol); losartan (Cozaar); and others.
Ubiquinone
Alkylating Agents
Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant effects. Theoretically, this may reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals.
Theoretically, antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10 might protect tumor cells from chemotherapeutic agents that work by inducing oxidative stress, such as alkylating agents (e.g., cyclophosphamide) and radiation therapy. The clinical importance of this interaction is unknown.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Coenzyme Q10 is chemically similar to menaquinone and might have vitamin K-like procoagulant effects, which could decrease the effects of warfarin.
Concomitant use of coenzyme Q10 and warfarin might reduce the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. Four cases of decreased warfarin efficacy thought to be due to coenzyme Q10 have been reported. However, there is some preliminary clinical research that suggests coenzyme Q10 might not significantly decrease the effects of warfarin in patients who have a stable INR.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, coenzyme Q10 might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical research shows that coenzyme Q10 can significantly lower blood pressure, although other studies have shown conflicting results.
