Super Dophilus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Viva Vitamins
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Super Dophilus against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Super Dophilus by Viva Vitamins
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Super Dophilus contains 10 active ingredients — a mix of live probiotic bacteria and prebiotic fiber. The probiotics include Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus lactis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bifidum, and Bifidobacterium longum, along with FOS, a prebiotic blend, and FiberAid Arabinogalactans (larch arabinogalactan).
The inactive ingredients are the capsule, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence we hold is mixed and sparse. Lactobacillus acidophilus shows possible effectiveness for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
For most other uses claimed for probiotics — acne, hay fever, asthma, cold prevention, cognitive decline, anxiety, and athletic performance — we have insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well these ingredients work. The larch arabinogalactan shows insufficient evidence for common cold or high cholesterol.
If you're considering this product for a specific condition, it's worth talking through the evidence with your pharmacist.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotic bacteria in Super Dophilus are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, people who are seriously ill or have a weak immune system should be cautious — there are rare but documented cases of these bacteria causing serious bloodstream infections (bacteremia), sepsis, and other severe infections in very ill or immunocompromised patients, especially infants.
Some people may experience mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, or diarrhea, though these are uncommon. Safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding are limited; one ingredient (Bifidobacterium longum) is rated possibly safe during pregnancy and lactation, but for the others, the safety information isn't on file.
Check with your doctor before using if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, seriously ill, or immunocompromised.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Super Dophilus, check with your pharmacist if you take immunosuppressant drugs (such as cyclosporine, tacrolimus, mycophenolate, or basiliximab) — the larch arabinogalactan may interfere with them. Also check if you take antibiotics — you'll want to space them away from this product so the live bacteria don't get killed and lose effectiveness.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Super Dophilus is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with IBS, certain infections, and antibiotic-related diarrhea based on the data we hold, though evidence is limited overall. It's generally well tolerated in healthy people but requires caution in those who are seriously ill or have weak immune systems.
If you take immunosuppressant or antibiotic medications, or if you have a serious illness, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting this product.

Super Dophilus by Viva Vitamins Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Super Dophilus by Viva Vitamins contains several probiotic bacteria, and the ones we have data for do interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with immunosuppressant drugs (azathioprine, basiliximab, cyclosporine, daclizumab, muromonab-CD3, mycophenolate, tacrolimus, sirolimus, and others) — the larch arabinogalactan in this product may interfere with how these drugs work by stimulating your immune system when you need it suppressed.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Second, antibiotic drugs are a moderate concern. Three of the probiotic bacteria in this product — Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bifidobacterium longum (listed as Lactobacillus longum) — may lose their effectiveness if you take antibiotics at the same time, because the antibiotics can kill the live organisms.
The data recommend spacing out doses of these two.
Additionally, we could not check several other ingredients: Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus lactis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus bifidum, FOS, and the proprietary and prebiotic blends — we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 298 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact drugs before starting.

Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus delbrueckii with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. delbrueckii.
Lactobacillus delbrueckii preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. delbrueckii preparations by at least two hours.
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Lactobacillus longum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
