Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: essential for normal brain and muscle function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Manganese deficiency, muscle function, neuromuscular health.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Manganese is rated "Effective" for Manganese deficiency (Natural Medicines).

The evidence we hold shows that manganese is effective for manganese deficiency — if your doctor has diagnosed you with low manganese levels, this product can help. For other uses listed on the label — hay fever, osteoporosis, COPD, weight management, and osteoarthritis — we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate whether manganese actually works for those conditions.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Manganese is generally well tolerated when you take it in normal dietary amounts or standard supplement doses. However, high-dose manganese supplements carry real risks.

High doses can cause neurotoxicity (nerve damage), including Parkinson-like symptoms — one person who took 100 mg daily for 2 to 4 years developed severe, irreversible Parkinson disease. There's also concern that high-dose manganese can damage the liver, causing cirrhosis and fatty liver disease.

One case involved severe, life-threatening neurological symptoms that required intensive medical treatment including plasma exchange. The safety data advises against high-dose supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding; stick to the amounts found in foods and prenatal vitamins instead.

Because of the potential for serious nerve and liver damage at high doses, if you're considering this product, talk with your doctor or pharmacist first about whether it's right for you and what dose would be appropriate.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Manganese.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 83 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your medications if you take antipsychotic drugs, quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin), or tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline or minocycline) — manganese can interact with all three, with Moderate severity. The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you've been diagnosed with manganese deficiency, this product can help. But if you take antipsychotic medications or certain antibiotics (quinolones or tetracyclines), you'll need to check with your pharmacist first — timing and spacing matter.

High-dose manganese carries real risks for nerve and liver damage, so don't exceed recommended doses without medical guidance.

Ultimate Manganese Concentrate by Complete H2O Minerals: Common Questions

Does Ultimate Manganese Concentrate by Complete H2O Minerals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Ultimate Manganese Concentrate has a known interaction with 83 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Ultimate Manganese Concentrate contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is manganese safe to take every day?
Manganese is generally well tolerated at normal dietary doses and in standard supplements. The concern is with high-dose supplements — those carry a real risk of nerve damage and liver damage over time. Stick to the dose on the label, and talk with your pharmacist if you're unsure whether that amount is right for you.
What is manganese supposed to do in my body?
Manganese is a mineral your body needs for bone health, metabolism, and normal nerve function. If you have a manganese deficiency, this product can help restore your levels. For other conditions like hay fever or osteoarthritis, we don't have strong evidence that manganese actually helps.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against high-dose manganese supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Stick to the amounts you get naturally from food and prenatal vitamins. Talk with your doctor before adding any manganese supplement while pregnant or nursing.
What are the side effects of manganese?
At normal doses, manganese rarely causes problems. High doses are a different story — they can damage your nerves (causing Parkinson-like symptoms) and your liver. One person developed severe, irreversible Parkinson disease after taking very high doses for years.
Will this work for my hay fever or arthritis?
We don't have reliable evidence that manganese helps with hay fever, osteoarthritis, or the other conditions on this label besides manganese deficiency itself. If you're interested in manganese for one of those reasons, talk with your doctor about whether it makes sense for you.
