Agmatine and Furosemide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Furosemide

Furosemide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Agmatine interacts with.

Theoretically, agmatine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research suggests that agmatine can modestly decrease heart rate and blood pressure.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist: furosemide (Lasix) pulls extra fluid and salt out of your body, which naturally lowers your blood pressure. Agmatine, in animal studies, seems to nudge blood pressure and heart rate down a little on its own. Put the two together and, in theory, those small drops could add up, leaving you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or woozy when you stand up.

I want to be straight with you, though: this concern comes only from lab and animal research, not from solid human studies, so it's more of a 'keep an eye out' than a red alert. If you take Lasix and want to try agmatine, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first, and watch for dizziness or feeling faint, especially early on.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Furosemide page

“Yellow dock is where I would start with furosemide (Lasix). This water pill already flushes potassium, and heavy yellow dock use can compound that loss, one of nine major-rated interactions on a list of 227 that deserves genuine care.”
