Agrimony and Cefprozil

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Cefprozil and Agrimony in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Cefprozil

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Cefprozil is filed under 6 classifications — including organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates, organic anion transporter 1 (oat1) substrates, antibiotic drugs. Agrimony has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Cefprozil’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Cefprozil’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Agrimony. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Cefprozil’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both.

  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Cefprozil. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 780 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Cefprozil that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Agrimony’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Agrimony side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Agrimony has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Cefprozil

This page covers Agrimony only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Cefprozil page lists 60 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cefprozil page

“Cefprozil (Cefzil) is a cephalosporin antibiotic, usually a short course for ear, sinus, throat, or skin infections, and three of the 60 supplements on this list warrant real caution even for a week of pills. Activated charcoal can bind the drug and pull it out of your system before it works.”

About Agrimony

What is Agrimony?

Agrimony
  • Sore throat and mouth irritation
  • Mild diarrhea and digestive upset
  • Minor wounds and skin irritation
  • Gallbladder and liver complaints
  • Blood sugar support

Agrimony is a traditional European herb rich in tannins that has long been used for sore throats, mild diarrhea, and minor skin problems. Good-quality human studies are very limited, so its benefits remain unproven. If you choose to try it, use it short-term, follow the product label, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Agrimonia eupatoria · Rosaceae · Dried above-ground parts (leaves, stems, flowers) and seeds · Tea, tincture, liquid extract, capsules, gargle or mouth rinse, topical preparations

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Agrimony is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Agrimony record says about it on its own.

Agrimony: dosing

There is no well-established, standardized dose for agrimony. Traditional use has been mainly as a tea made from the dried herb, or as a tincture or liquid extract. If you choose to use an agrimony product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Cefprozil

What Is Cefprozil Used For?

Brand name: Cefzil

Cefprozil tablets and oral suspension are both used to treat mild to moderate bacterial infections in adults and children. Approved uses include pharyngitis/tonsillitis (strep throat), acute sinusitis, otitis media (ear infections), acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections.

Cefprozil tablets are also approved for secondary bacterial infection of acute bronchitis. Because antibiotic resistance is a real concern, cefprozil should only be used when the infection is proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria that respond to it.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Cefprozil
