Dapagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Alfalfa interacts with.

Theoretically, alfalfa might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that alfalfa decreases blood sugar in diabetic mice. Also, in one case report, a diabetic patient experienced hypoglycemia after consuming alfalfa extract. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

Here's the gist: alfalfa may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. When you pair that with dapagliflozin (Farxiga), which already works to bring your glucose down by flushing sugar out through your urine, the two could add up and nudge your readings lower than you want.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This concern comes mostly from animal studies and a single patient report, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, if you do try alfalfa, keep an eye out for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling unusually hungry, and check your glucose a bit more often at first. Loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and don't change your Farxiga dose on your own.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
