American hellebore, also known as Veratrum viride, contains alkaloids that can potentially prolong the QT interval on an electrocardiogram (ECG). Combining American hellebore with other drugs that cause QT-prolongation can increase the risk of adverse effects.

Here's the key thing to know about halofantrine: it's a malaria medicine that already has a real reputation for affecting your heart's electrical rhythm. On an ECG it can stretch out the QT interval, and that, in rare cases, can trigger a dangerous heart rhythm called torsades de pointes. American hellebore carries its own alkaloids that can do the very same thing.

So putting these two together stacks one QT risk on top of another. That raises the chance of symptoms like a racing or fluttering heartbeat, lightheadedness, or fainting. American hellebore is also flat-out toxic and can crash your heart rate and blood pressure on its own. Please don't combine these without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.
