Here's the gist of it: andiroba oil contains plant compounds that, in lab and animal studies, seem to gently nudge the same calming GABA system in the brain that your seizure medicine works through. Vigabatrin (Sabril) boosts GABA activity too, so the theory is that taking the two together might add up and turn up Vigabatrin's effects a bit. In real life that could mean more of its usual side effects, like drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, or feeling foggy.

I want to be honest with you though: this is only a theoretical concern from animal research, not something proven in people, and any added effect is considered unlikely and minor. Andiroba is also meant for use on the skin, not swallowed. Still, since Vigabatrin is a serious seizure drug, let your pharmacist or doctor know before mixing them.

Andiroba is an oil pressed from the seeds of an Amazonian tree, used mainly on the skin for inflammation, minor wounds, aches, and as an insect repellent. Most evidence comes from laboratory and animal studies, so its benefits in people are not well proven. It is most often used topically; avoid internal use and use during pregnancy or breastfeeding because safety has not been established.

About Vigabatrin

What Is Vigabatrin Used For?

Brand name: Sabril

Vigabatrin is used to treat two types of seizure conditions. For refractory complex partial seizures (seizures that have not responded well to other treatments), vigabatrin oral solution and tablets are used as an add-on therapy in patients 2 years of age and older — it is not a first-line treatment. Sabril, Vigadrone, and vigabatrin-branded products carry this indication.

For infantile spasms — a specific type of seizure disorder in very young children — vigabatrin oral solution is used as a standalone (monotherapy) treatment in infants 1 month to 2 years of age. Vigafyde oral solution is indicated specifically for infantile spasms monotherapy in this same age group. In all cases, treatment is only appropriate when the potential benefits outweigh the risk of permanent vision loss.
