Here's the situation with andiroba and lamotrigine (Lamictal). Some compounds in andiroba have shown calming, anticonvulsant-like effects in animals, possibly by nudging the same GABA pathways in the brain that several seizure medicines lean on. The thinking is that stacking the two could, in theory, add up and slightly amp up lamotrigine's sedating side. That might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, blurred or double vision, or unsteadiness.

I want to be honest with you though: this is very much a theoretical concern drawn from lab and animal work, not real-world human cases, and it's rated minor and unlikely. Andiroba is also mainly used on the skin, where little gets into your system. Don't take it internally without checking first, and run any new supplement past your pharmacist or neurologist since seizure control matters.

Andiroba is an oil pressed from the seeds of an Amazonian tree, used mainly on the skin for inflammation, minor wounds, aches, and as an insect repellent. It is most often used topically; avoid internal use and use during pregnancy or breastfeeding because safety has not been established.

What Is Lamotrigine Used For?

Brand name: Lamictal

Lamotrigine is used to treat several types of seizures in adults and children aged 2 and older — including partial-onset seizures, generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures, and seizures related to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. In older teens and adults, it can also be used alone (monotherapy) after transitioning off another seizure medicine.

For adults with bipolar I disorder, lamotrigine is used as a maintenance treatment — meaning it helps delay the return of mood episodes like depression, mania, or mixed states. It is not approved to treat an active manic or mixed episode that's happening right now.
