Here's the simple version: Glucovance is two diabetes medicines in one pill. The glyburide part pushes your pancreas to release more insulin, which actively lowers your blood sugar. The metformin part helps your body use insulin better. Now, the Atkins diet already cuts way back on carbs, so it lowers your blood sugar on its own. Stack that on top of glyburide and you can drop too low, which we call hypoglycemia.

What that feels like: shakiness, sweating, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or feeling lightheaded. The glyburide piece is the main concern here, since metformin alone rarely causes lows. This is more of a theoretical, watch-and-see caution than a hard warning. If you're thinking about going low-carb, please check in with your doctor first so they can monitor your numbers and adjust your dose if needed. Don't change anything on your own.
