Amlodipine Besylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

Here's the gist for amlodipine (Norvasc). Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this blood pressure medicine. In lab and animal studies, atractylodes seemed to slow down a similar enzyme. If that held true in people, amlodipine could linger a bit longer and its effects could feel stronger, possibly meaning more dizziness, flushing, headache, ankle swelling, or blood pressure that dips lower than expected.

The important catch: this is only theoretical and comes from high-dose animal work, not from humans. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since amlodipine directly affects your blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding atractylodes, especially if you notice new lightheadedness.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norvasc

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
