Glecaprevir, Pibrentasvir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

Here's the gist with Mavyret (glecaprevir and pibrentasvir) and atractylodes. Both of those antiviral ingredients are partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In animal studies using high doses, atractylodes appeared to slow that enzyme down a bit. If the same thing happened in people, your body might clear Mavyret a little slower, nudging its levels up. That could in theory mean more of the common side effects, like headache, tiredness, or nausea.

I want to keep this in perspective though. This is only theoretical, based on lab and animal work, and it has never been shown in humans. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since you're treating hepatitis C, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding atractylodes.

What Is Glecaprevir and Pibrentasvir Used For?

Brand name: Mavyret

Mavyret treats acute or chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection caused by genotypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 in adults and children 3 years and older who have no cirrhosis or have compensated cirrhosis (mild liver scarring that is still functioning).

Mavyret is also approved for adults and children 3 years and older with genotype 1 HCV who were previously treated with either an NS5A inhibitor or an NS3/4A protease inhibitor (two earlier classes of hepatitis C drugs) — but not both at the same time.
