Avocado Sugar Extract and Isotretinoin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Isotretinoin and Avocado Sugar Extract in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Isotretinoin

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Isotretinoin is filed under 4 classifications — including retinoids, cytochrome p450 2c8 (cyp2c8) substrates, photosensitizing drugs. Avocado Sugar Extract has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Isotretinoin’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

This page covers Avocado Sugar Extract only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Isotretinoin page lists 49 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Isotretinoin page

“Vitamin A is the first thing anyone on isotretinoin (Accutane, Absorica, Claravis) should check their supplements for, because isotretinoin is itself a vitamin A derivative and stacking more on top can push levels into toxic range. It is one of two major-rated entries among the 49 supplements and herbs known to interact with this acne…”

About Avocado Sugar Extract

What is Avocado Sugar Extract?

  • Weight management
  • Healthy aging/longevity interest
  • Metabolic support
  • Athletic/animal supplement formulas

Avocado sugar extract is a source of D-mannoheptulose, an unusual sugar studied mainly in laboratory and animal research for its possible effects on glucose metabolism. Human evidence is very limited, so it should not be relied on to treat diabetes or any condition. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have blood sugar concerns.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Avocado Sugar Extract is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Avocado Sugar Extract record says about it on its own.

Avocado Sugar Extract: dosing

There is no established standardized dose for avocado sugar extract or D-mannoheptulose in humans. Products vary widely in how much extract they contain and how it is standardized. If you choose to use it, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed them.

Brand names: Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret, Absorica, Roaccutane

Isotretinoin capsules — sold under brand names including Absorica, Absorica LD, Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, and others — are indicated for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne in non-pregnant patients 12 years of age and older. This means deep, inflamed acne nodules (5 mm or larger) that have not cleared with conventional treatments, including systemic antibiotics.

This medication is reserved for the most severe cases because of its significant potential side effects. It is not used for mild or moderate acne. Absorica and Absorica LD are two distinct products that are not interchangeable with each other on a milligram-per-milligram basis due to differences in bioavailability and recommended dosing.
