Preliminary clinical research shows that bay leaf can lower blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes who are already taking antidiabetes medication. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments may be necessary.

Here's the simple version: bay leaf may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. Insulin glargine (Basaglar, Semglee, Lusduna) already lowers your blood sugar, so stacking the two could push your glucose down further than expected. That raises the chance of a low (hypoglycemia), which can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or even passing out.

Now, the reassuring part: this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how bay leaf seems to work, not strong human studies. The pinch of bay leaf in your soup almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated capsules or extracts are the bigger question mark. If you take or are thinking about those, check your blood sugar more often and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Insulin Glargine (rDNA origin) Injection Used For?

Brand names: Basaglar, Lusduna, Semglee

Insulin glargine is used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a long-acting basal insulin, meaning it works gradually over the course of the day to keep blood sugar steady.

Insulin glargine is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the blood becomes dangerously acidic).
