Here's the gist with Doxepin (Silenor) and bay leaf. Doxepin already works by calming brain activity to help you sleep, and that's exactly where the worry lies. Bay leaf contains a compound called methyl eugenol that, in animal studies only, showed sedative effects. So in theory, large amounts of concentrated bay leaf could add to doxepin's own drowsiness, leaving you groggier than expected, more dizzy, or with that heavy, hard-to-wake feeling the next morning.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal data, not solid human evidence. The pinch of bay leaf in your soup or stew is not the issue. Concentrated bay leaf supplements or essential oils are where I'd pause. Before combining them, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.
