This combination product contains phenobarbital, a barbiturate that calms the nervous system. The concern here is mostly about that piece. Bay leaf has a compound called methyl eugenol that, in animal studies, showed mild sedative effects. So in theory, taking large, concentrated amounts of bay leaf alongside phenobarbital could add to the drowsiness, leaving you more sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady than usual.

I want to be honest: this is theoretical, based on lab and animal work, not real-world human reports. The bay leaf you sprinkle into soup or a pot of beans is not going to cause trouble. The caution applies only to bay leaf supplements or essential oils. If you're considering those, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
