Preliminary clinical research shows that bay leaf can lower blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes who are already taking antidiabetes medication. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments may be necessary.

Here's the simple version: bay leaf may nudge your blood sugar a little lower on its own. Since insulin is already working hard to bring sugar down, stacking the two together could push you too low. That's the real concern here, an added risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling dizzy or weak.

Now, the important caveat: this is mostly a theoretical concern based on how bay leaf seems to behave, not strong proof. The bay leaf in your soup or stew is not going to cause trouble. The question is really about concentrated bay leaf supplements or extracts. If you take those, keep a closer eye on your glucose readings and let your doctor or pharmacist know before changing anything, since your insulin dose may need a look.

Novolin (human insulin injection) is used to improve glycemic control — meaning blood sugar management — in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.
