Preliminary clinical research shows that bay leaf can lower blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes who are already taking antidiabetes medication. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments may be necessary.

Here's the simple version: pork insulin already does the heavy lifting of lowering your blood sugar. Bay leaf, when taken as a concentrated supplement, may nudge your sugar down a little further. Stack the two and your glucose could dip too low. With insulin, signs of a low include shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, hunger, or feeling lightheaded.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern drawn from how bay leaf may behave, plus some early research, not strong proof. The bay leaf you toss in a soup pot is very unlikely to matter. If you're taking bay leaf capsules or extracts, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first and watch your numbers closely. Don't change your insulin on your own.
