Clomipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.

Here's the concern with pairing these two. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear clomipramine out of your system. Lab studies suggest BMPEA can block that enzyme. If it's blocked, clomipramine can build up to higher levels than expected, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects.

For clomipramine, that could look like extra drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, a faster heartbeat, or dizziness when standing. At higher levels, this drug can also affect heart rhythm, and BMPEA is itself a stimulant that stresses the heart, so the combo is a double worry. This is theoretical, based mostly on lab data, but BMPEA is best avoided anyway. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.

Here's the gist for these two together. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear clomipramine. Lab studies suggest BMPEA can slow that same enzyme down (by roughly a third in a test tube), so in theory clomipramine could build up a bit more than usual. With a tricyclic like this, higher levels can mean stronger side effects: dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, trouble urinating, and effects on heart rhythm.

On top of that, BMPEA is an amphetamine-like stimulant that can push up heart rate and blood pressure, which isn't a great mix with a TCA. The drug-level interaction itself is only theoretical right now, but given the stimulant concerns, I'd skip BMPEA and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Clomipramine — sold as Anafranil and under the generic name Clomipramine Hydrochloride — is approved to treat obsessions and compulsions in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This includes adults and children/adolescents ages 10 to 17.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
