Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) + Hydrocodone Bitartrate
Hydrocodone Bitartrate brand names: Hysingla, Vantrela ER.
Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls into 2 drug categories that Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with whole categories of medication. Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Hydrocodone Bitartrate
Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing about hydrocodone: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert it into hydromorphone, which is a more potent form that does a lot of the pain-relieving work. So hydrocodone acts a bit like a prodrug. Lab studies suggest BMPEA can strongly block CYP2D6. If that holds true in people, your body might make less of that stronger active form, meaning your hydrocodone could feel less effective and your pain control might slip.
I'll be honest, this is theoretical, based on test-tube data, not real patient studies, so don't panic. BMPEA is also an unapproved stimulant that can raise your heart rate and blood pressure, which is reason enough to steer clear. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Hydrocodone Bitartrate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for hydrocodone (Hysingla, Vantrela ER). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this opioid down. Lab studies suggest BMPEA can partly block that enzyme (by around a third in a test tube), which could in theory slow how fast your body clears hydrocodone. That might let more of it build up, leaning toward stronger effects like heavy drowsiness, confusion, constipation, and most concerning, slowed or shallow breathing.
I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based only on lab data, not real-world cases. The bigger issue, in my view, is that BMPEA is an unapproved amphetamine-like stimulant with real heart risks, so I'd avoid it altogether. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything with hydrocodone.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

About Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)
What is Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)?
- Weight loss
- Pre-workout energy
- Athletic performance
- Appetite suppression
- Mental focus
Beta-methylphenethylamine (BMPEA) is a synthetic stimulant chemically similar to amphetamine that has been found in some weight-loss and sports supplements, often without being clearly listed on the label. It is not an approved or well-studied dietary ingredient, and regulators have warned that it may carry real cardiovascular risks. Because of safety concerns and the lack of human research, it is best avoided.
About Hydrocodone
What Is Hydrocodone Used For?
Brand names: Hysingla, Vantrela ER
Hydrocodone extended-release products treat severe and persistent pain that needs a daily opioid pain reliever. They are for people whose pain can't be managed well with other treatments, including immediate-release opioids.
They are not meant to be used as an as-needed pain reliever. Hydrocodone bitartrate extended-release capsules are described for pain needing an extended treatment period. Hydrocodone bitartrate extended-release tablets and Hysingla ER are described for pain that can't be adequately treated with other options.
