Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) + Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine
Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine brand names: P-V-Tussin, Rezira.
Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine falls into 3 drug categories that Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with whole categories of medication. Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 3Why this applies to Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine
Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA strongly inhibits CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the wrinkle with this combo. Lab studies (test tube only, not people) suggest BMPEA can block an enzyme called CYP2D6. Your hydrocodone actually relies on that same enzyme to turn into its more active painkilling form, so blocking it could mean less pain relief, not more. Meanwhile, you've got two stimulant-type effects stacking up: BMPEA itself plus the pseudoephedrine in this product, which can push your heart rate and blood pressure higher and leave you jittery or unable to sleep.
This is theoretical, but the stimulant pile-up is the part that genuinely concerns me, especially if you have any heart or blood pressure issues. BMPEA isn't a vetted ingredient anyway. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with combining BMPEA and a product like Rezira, which pairs hydrocodone (an opioid cough/pain reliever) with pseudoephedrine (a decongestant). Lab studies suggest BMPEA may modestly block CYP3A4, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear hydrocodone. If that enzyme slows down, hydrocodone could build up a bit more than expected, which may mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, slowed breathing, or constipation.
On top of that, BMPEA is an amphetamine-like stimulant, and pseudoephedrine is also a stimulant. Stacking the two could push your heart rate and blood pressure up. This is theoretical and based only on test-tube data, so don't panic, but BMPEA is best avoided anyway. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

STIMULANT DRUGS
3 of 3Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.
BMPEA is thought to have stimulant effects, including cardiovascular effects such as hypertension, tachycardia, and cardiac arrest.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about this combination. Your medicine pairs hydrocodone (a cough suppressant) with pseudoephedrine, which is itself a decongestant stimulant. Pseudoephedrine already nudges up your heart rate and blood pressure. BMPEA is an amphetamine-like stimulant, so stacking the two could add up and put extra strain on your heart. We're talking possible jitteriness, a racing or pounding heartbeat, and higher blood pressure.
To be fair, this concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than solid human studies. Still, BMPEA isn't an approved or well-studied ingredient, and it's often hidden in weight-loss or sports products. I'd steer clear of it while on this medication, and please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine page
“Rezira and P-V-Tussin pair hydrocodone, an opioid, with pseudoephedrine, a decongestant, so the 241 supplements here pull in two directions and I would handle this combination with real care. Most entries either deepen the opioid's sedation (78 ingredients are CNS depressants, alcohol included) or stack stimulant effects onto the pseud…”

About Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)
What is Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea)?
- Weight loss
- Pre-workout energy
- Athletic performance
- Appetite suppression
- Mental focus
Beta-methylphenethylamine (BMPEA) is a synthetic stimulant chemically similar to amphetamine that has been found in some weight-loss and sports supplements, often without being clearly listed on the label. It is not an approved or well-studied dietary ingredient, and regulators have warned that it may carry real cardiovascular risks. Because of safety concerns and the lack of human research, it is best avoided.
