Nafcillin falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Biofeedback interacts with.

There is some concern that electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback might lower the seizure threshold in some patients. Theoretically, combining EEG biofeedback with seizure threshold-lowering drugs might increase the risk of seizure.
Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here is the gist: this isn't your usual drug interaction. Nafcillin is a penicillin antibiotic, and at high doses (especially in people with kidney problems or other risk factors) penicillins can slightly lower the seizure threshold, meaning the brain becomes a touch more prone to seizure activity. The concern on file is that EEG biofeedback might do the same thing in certain people, so doing both together could, in theory, nudge that risk up a bit.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. The evidence is mostly theoretical and applies to a small group, not most folks getting a course of nafcillin. If you have a seizure history or are doing EEG biofeedback, just mention it to your doctor or pharmacist so they can keep an eye on things. Don't change your antibiotic on your own.

About Nafcillin Injection

What Is Nafcillin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Nallpen

NAFCILLIN Injection is used to treat infections caused by staphylococci — specifically strains that produce an enzyme called penicillinase, which makes them resistant to regular penicillin. Susceptibility testing is performed to confirm the bacteria will respond to nafcillin before or shortly after starting treatment.

Nafcillin may also be started right away when a resistant staph infection is strongly suspected, even before test results are available. It should not be used for infections caused by bacteria that would respond to standard penicillin G, or for infections caused by non-staph organisms.
