Vilazodone falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Biofeedback interacts with.

There is some concern that electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback might lower the seizure threshold in some patients. Theoretically, combining EEG biofeedback with seizure threshold-lowering drugs might increase the risk of seizure.
Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the thing to know about pairing biofeedback with vilazodone (Viibryd). This isn't a chemical interaction where one changes how the other is broken down. Instead, there's a theoretical concern that one specific type, EEG (brainwave) biofeedback, might slightly lower the seizure threshold in some people. Vilazodone, like many antidepressants, can also nudge that threshold down a little on its own. In theory, doing both together could add up and make a seizure marginally more likely.

I want to keep this in perspective, though. The evidence here is thin, and for most people this risk is very low. Other forms of biofeedback (like muscle tension or heart rate) aren't really part of this concern. If you have a history of seizures, mention it to your doctor or pharmacist before starting EEG biofeedback.

MDD is more than just feeling sad; it's a clinical condition involving persistent low mood, loss of interest, and other symptoms that significantly affect daily life.

Vilazodone is not approved for use in children or teenagers. Its safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients.
