Vilazodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Let me start with the most important thing: jequirity seeds contain abrin, a plant poison that is closely related to ricin. This is not something you should ever take as a supplement, no matter what medication you're on. Please don't use it.

As for the actual interaction with vilazodone (Viibryd): your liver clears this drug using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that jequirity may slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let vilazodone build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual side effects like nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, or trouble sleeping. But this is only test-tube data, the effect is rated minor and unlikely, and the real danger here is the poison itself. If you have any questions, your pharmacist or doctor is happy to help.

Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

Vilazodone hydrochloride tablets — sold as the brand Viibryd and as generic vilazodone hydrochloride — are approved to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. MDD is more than just feeling sad; it's a clinical condition involving persistent low mood, loss of interest, and other symptoms that significantly affect daily life.

Vilazodone is not approved for use in children or teenagers. Its safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients.
