First things first: jequirity isn't something you should ever take. Its seeds contain abrin, a toxin in the same family as ricin, and it can be deadly. There's no safe or proven medicinal use for it, so please don't use it as a supplement at all.

As for the actual interaction with your verapamil, here's the gist. Lab studies (just test tube work, not people) suggest jequirity may slow down an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the main pathways your body uses to clear verapamil. In theory, that could let verapamil build up, which might mean a lower-than-usual heart rate, dizziness, very low blood pressure, or constipation. This is rated minor and unlikely, and it's only theoretical. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with verapamil.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

What Is Verapamil Used For?

Brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, Calan, Covera HS, Verap, Veramil

Verapamil tablets and film-coated tablets are used to treat angina — including vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina, unstable angina, and chronic stable angina — as well as certain abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure (essential hypertension). For arrhythmias, regular-release tablets are used alongside digoxin to control heart rate in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation, and to help prevent episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a type of rapid heartbeat.

Extended-release and sustained-release oral forms (tablets and capsules) are indicated specifically for high blood pressure. Verapamil hydrochloride injection is used in hospital settings for rapid conversion of SVT to normal rhythm and for temporary control of fast heart rates in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation.
