Prednisone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First, the most important thing: jequirity seeds are genuinely poisonous (they contain abrin, a toxin in the same family as ricin), so you should not be taking this as a supplement at all. Please don't use it. The drug interaction below matters far less than that basic safety concern.

On the interaction itself: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear prednisone. In a lab dish, jequirity extract slowed that enzyme down. If that happened in a person, prednisone could build up a bit, which in theory might mean more steroid-type effects like higher blood sugar, fluid retention, mood changes, or trouble sleeping. But this is only test-tube data, the effect is rated minor and unlikely, and prednisone is not a prodrug. If you have any questions, check with your pharmacist or doctor.
