First things first: jequirity seeds are genuinely poisonous and should never be taken as a supplement, so the safest move with cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) is to avoid jequirity entirely. Setting the toxicity aside, the interaction we have on file is a gentle one. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear cyclobenzaprine, and lab studies suggest jequirity might slow that enzyme down. Cyclobenzaprine is an active drug, not a prodrug, so slowing its breakdown could let a bit more linger in your system.

In theory, that might mean more of the usual effects, like drowsiness, dry mouth, or feeling foggy. But this is based only on test-tube research, rated minor and unlikely. Still, please run any combination past your pharmacist or doctor.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

What Is Cyclobenzaprine Used For?

Brand names: Cyclobenzaprine, Flexeril, Cycloprine

Cyclobenzaprine tablets and extended-release capsules are used alongside rest and physical therapy to relieve muscle spasm caused by acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions — easing pain, tenderness, and limited movement. This use is intended for short-term treatment only (up to 2–3 weeks).

Tonmya, the sublingual (under-the-tongue) form of cyclobenzaprine, is separately indicated for the treatment of fibromyalgia in adults. It is not the same as the oral tablet or capsule formulations.
