Why this applies to Ibuprofen, Oxycodone

Ibuprofen, Oxycodone falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Jequirity interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that constituents of jequirity beans can inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, jequirity might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

First things first: jequirity seeds are genuinely poisonous and shouldn't be taken at all, so this is really a 'don't use it' situation rather than a dosing question. That said, here's the specific concern. The combination pill you're asking about (Combunox) contains ibuprofen, an NSAID that already thins the blood a little by reducing platelet stickiness. Lab studies suggest jequirity compounds can also block platelets from clumping together.

Put those two together and, in theory, you could bleed or bruise more easily. With ibuprofen, that might show up as stomach irritation, dark stools, or nosebleeds. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not real patient reports. Still, the safest move is to skip jequirity entirely and check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Ibuprofen, Oxycodone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First things first: jequirity seeds are genuinely poisonous (they contain abrin, a toxin much like ricin), so this isn't something I'd ever recommend taking in any form. Setting that big safety issue aside, here's the specific interaction you asked about. The oxycodone half of Combunox is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that jequirity might slow that enzyme down, which could in theory let oxycodone build up a bit and lead to stronger effects like drowsiness, dizziness, slowed breathing, nausea, or constipation.

That said, this is based only on test-tube research, not on real people, so it's marked unlikely and minor. The ibuprofen part isn't really affected this way. Please don't use jequirity, and check with your pharmacist or doctor with any questions.

Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.
