STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Pseudoephedrine
Acetaminophen, Pseudoephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Bitter Orange interacts with.
Bitter orange appears to have stimulant effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to watch with this combo: your Sudafed Sinus or Tylenol Sinus product contains pseudoephedrine, which is itself a stimulant that can bump up your heart rate and blood pressure. Bitter orange (its active piece is synephrine) does much the same thing. Stack them together and you're basically doubling up on stimulants, so the worry is added strain on your heart and blood pressure.
In real life that might mean a racing or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, headache, trouble sleeping, or higher blood pressure readings. This concern is more theoretical than proven, but it's reasonable, especially if you already have high blood pressure or any heart issues. The acetaminophen part isn't the problem here. Before pairing these, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Bitter Orange
What is Bitter Orange?
- Weight loss
- Athletic performance and energy
- Digestive upset
- Appetite control
- Aromatherapy for stress (neroli oil)
Bitter orange is a citrus fruit whose extracts contain synephrine, a mild stimulant often added to weight-loss and energy supplements. Evidence that it works for weight loss or performance is limited, and because it can raise heart rate and blood pressure, people with heart problems, high blood pressure, or who are pregnant should avoid it. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you take other stimulants.
