Why this applies to Labetalol

Labetalol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension. Animal research shows that breadfruit leaf extract can decrease heart rate and weaken the force of heart muscle contractions, which may lower blood pressure.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the gist: Labetalol already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and slowing your heart rate. Breadfruit leaf products may push in the same direction. In animal studies, breadfruit leaf extract slowed the heart and weakened how hard the heart squeezed, which can drop blood pressure further. Stack that on top of labetalol and, in theory, your numbers could dip too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or notice your heartbeat feeling slow, especially when you stand up quickly. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal work, not on people. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger question, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using them.

Labetalol tablets (Labetalol HCL, Labetalol Hydrochloride oral) are used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines, such as diuretics. By lowering blood pressure, labetalol helps reduce the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

Labetalol injection products (LABETALOL HCl, Labetalol HCl in Dextrose, Labetalol HCl in Sodium Chloride, Labetalol Hydrochloride intravenous) are used specifically for severe hypertension and are given intravenously in a hospital setting.
