Breadfruit + Hydroxyzine
Hydroxyzine brand names: Atarax, Vistaril, Ucerax.
Breadfruit has a minor interaction with Hydroxyzine. Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Hydroxyzine
Hydroxyzine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for hydroxyzine: this is an active medication, not a prodrug, so it works as soon as you take it. The concern on file is that compounds in breadfruit (like artocarpin) might slow down CYP3A4, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear certain drugs. If that enzyme gets blocked, a little more hydroxyzine could linger in your body, which could nudge up its usual effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, or feeling foggy.
That said, lean on the evidence here. This is only a theoretical worry from lab and animal studies, and we don't even know that hydroxyzine relies heavily on CYP3A4. Eating breadfruit as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist before using those.

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
About Hydroxyzine
What Is Hydroxyzine Used For?
Brand names: Atarax, Vistaril, Ucerax
Hydroxyzine by mouth (tablets, capsules, oral solution and syrup) is used for short-term relief of anxiety and tension linked to psychoneurosis (long-standing anxiety-type emotional conditions). It is also used when anxiety is part of another physical illness.
It helps with itching from allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria (hives) and atopic and contact dermatoses (eczema-type and irritant or allergic skin rashes). It is also used as a sedative before and after general anesthesia. Hydroxyzine hydrochloride intramuscular injection has additional uses, including acutely disturbed patients, alcohol withdrawal anxiety, delirium tremens, nausea and vomiting (not pregnancy-related), and as an add-on around surgery and childbirth.
