Breadfruit + Tretinoin
Tretinoin brand names: Vesanoid, Retin-A, Renova, Altreno.
Breadfruit has a moderate interaction with Tretinoin. Breadfruit might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) enzymes.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Tretinoin
Tretinoin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: oral tretinoin (the capsule form used for a type of leukemia) is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C8. A compound in breadfruit leaves, artocarpin, has been shown to slow that same enzyme in lab dish studies. In theory, slowing it down could let tretinoin build up a bit, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like headache, dry skin and lips, bone pain, or rising fats in the blood (triglycerides).
The honest truth, though, is that this has only been seen in a test tube, never in real people, so we don't know if it matters at all. Eating breadfruit as food is very unlikely to be a problem. If you're on tretinoin for leukemia and thinking about concentrated leaf teas or extracts, please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
About Tretinoin
What Is Tretinoin Used For?
Brand names: Vesanoid, Retin-A, Renova, Altreno
Tretinoin cream 0.02% is approved to help lessen the look of fine facial wrinkles in people who also follow a comprehensive skin care and sun-avoidance program — including daily sunscreen, protective clothing, and moisturizers.
It's important to know what tretinoin does not do: it will not erase wrinkles, reverse sun damage, repair deeply weathered skin, or restore younger-looking skin. It has also not been shown to help with coarse or deep wrinkles, rough skin texture, dark spots, or sagging skin.

Tretinoin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Tretinoin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Breadfruit — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
