Why this applies to Ketoprofen

Ketoprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that certain flavonoid constituents from breadfruit root extract can inhibit thromboxane formation and reduce platelet aggregation.
Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the gist: ketoprofen is an NSAID, and like other NSAIDs it already nudges up your bleeding risk a little by making platelets (the cells that help your blood clot) less sticky. The concern with breadfruit is that some of its plant compounds may do something similar. Lab studies suggest certain flavonoids from breadfruit can lower platelet clumping. Stack that on top of ketoprofen and, in theory, you could bruise more easily or be slower to stop bleeding.

The important caveat: this is theoretical, based on test-tube research, not real patients. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger question mark. If you take ketoprofen regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before using breadfruit products medicinally.

What Is Ketoprofen Used For?

Brand names: Orudis, Oruvail Gel, Powergel, Oruvail Injection

Ketoprofen capsules (including the brand Orudis) are used to manage the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, to treat pain, and to treat primary dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual periods).

Ketoprofen extended-release capsules are approved for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis only. Because of the way they slowly release the drug, ketoprofen extended-release capsules are not recommended for treating acute (sudden) pain.
