Breadfruit + Fluvastatin
Fluvastatin brand names: Lescol, Lescol XL.
Breadfruit has a moderate interaction with Fluvastatin. Breadfruit might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) enzymes.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Fluvastatin
Fluvastatin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for fluvastatin (Lescol). Fluvastatin is an active medicine on its own, not a prodrug, and your body partly clears it through a liver enzyme called CYP2C8. A natural compound in breadfruit, artocarpin, has been shown in lab dish studies to slow that enzyme down. In theory, if it slowed clearance, more fluvastatin could linger in your blood, which might nudge up the risk of typical statin side effects like muscle aches, soreness, or weakness.
The honest part: this has never actually been seen in people, and it comes only from test-tube data. Eating breadfruit as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger unknown, so just run those by your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
About Fluvastatin
What Is Fluvastatin Used For?
Brand names: Lescol, Lescol XL
Fluvastatin is used along with a healthy diet to lower cholesterol. It is also used in people who already have coronary heart disease.
Uses differ by product. Fluvastatin capsules are approved for primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) and mixed dyslipidemia in adults. They are also approved for boys and post-menarchal girls ages 10 to 16 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (an inherited form of high cholesterol). Fluvastatin extended-release tablets, including Lescol XL, are approved for adults with primary hyperlipidemia. They are also approved for adults and children 10 and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia who need an 80 mg daily dose. Both forms are used in adults with coronary heart disease to lower the chance of needing a procedure to restore blood flow to the heart and to slow plaque buildup in the heart arteries.

Fluvastatin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Fluvastatin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Breadfruit — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
