Why this applies to Alteplase, tPA

Alteplase, tPA falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that certain flavonoid constituents from breadfruit root extract can inhibit thromboxane formation and reduce platelet aggregation.
Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: alteplase (tPA) is a powerful clot-busting medicine given in the hospital for serious events like a heart attack, stroke, or major blood clot. It works by dissolving clots, so its main risk is bleeding. Breadfruit's concern here is the same direction. Lab studies suggest certain flavonoids in breadfruit may make platelets (the cells that help form clots) a little less sticky, which could theoretically add to the bleeding risk.

That said, this is theoretical and based only on test-tube research, not real patients. Alteplase is also given by your medical team in an emergency, where they're already watching you closely. Normal breadfruit as food is very unlikely to matter. If you use concentrated breadfruit leaf products, mention it to your doctor or pharmacist.
