Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Candesartan Cilexetil
Candesartan Cilexetil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: candesartan already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Breadfruit leaf products (the teas and extracts, not the fruit on your plate) may also nudge blood pressure down a bit, based on early animal studies. Stack the two and you could, in theory, end up a little too low. That can show up as dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling faint when you stand up, or unusual tiredness.
I want to be honest about the strength here. This is a theoretical concern from lab and animal work, not proven in people, so it's not a reason to panic. Eating breadfruit as a normal food is unlikely to be a problem. If you're using concentrated leaf supplements for blood pressure or sugar, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
About Candesartan
What Is Candesartan Used For?
Brand names: Atacand, Amias
Candesartan lowers blood pressure in adults and in children 1 to under 17 years old. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
It is also used to treat heart failure (NYHA class II-IV) in adults whose heart pumps weakly (left ventricular systolic dysfunction). In these patients it reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospital stays for heart failure. The Atacand and candesartan cilexetil tablet labels both list these uses.
