Why this applies to Beclomethasone dipropionate

Beclomethasone dipropionate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution. In vitro, the breadfruit constituent artocarpin can inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. Also, animal research shows that breadfruit leaf extract can weakly inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. However, it is unclear if this inhibitory activity causes a clinically meaningful effect on the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.

Here's the quick version on breadfruit and your inhaler. Beclomethasone (Qvar, QNASL) is processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab and animal studies, certain compounds in breadfruit leaves seem to slow that enzyme down a little. In theory, that could let more beclomethasone hang around, which might nudge up steroid-type side effects.

The good news is that this is very weak, theory-level evidence, and your inhaler delivers a tiny dose right to the lungs, so very little reaches the bloodstream. Eating breadfruit as a food is unlikely to cause any real problem. I'd be a bit more thoughtful about concentrated leaf teas or extracts. If you use those regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Beclomethasone Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Qvar, QNASL

Beclomethasone dipropionate HFA inhalation aerosol (brand: Qvar Redihaler) is used for the ongoing, daily management of asthma in adults and children 5 years of age and older. It is a preventive (maintenance) therapy — not a rescue inhaler — meaning it helps control asthma over time rather than treating sudden symptoms.

Important: Qvar Redihaler is not for the relief of sudden asthma attacks or acute bronchospasm. Always keep a separate fast-acting (rescue) inhaler on hand for those moments.
