Breadfruit + Aripiprazole
Aripiprazole brand names: Abilify, Abilify Mycite, Abilify Maintena.
Breadfruit has a minor interaction with Aripiprazole. Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Aripiprazole
Aripiprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear aripiprazole. Lab and animal studies hint that compounds in breadfruit leaves may slightly slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, aripiprazole could build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or feeling lightheaded when you stand up.
The important part is that this is theoretical and only based on test-tube and animal data, so we don't know if it matters in people. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger question mark. If you're considering those, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
About Aripiprazole
What Is Aripiprazole Used For?
Brand names: Abilify, Abilify Mycite, Abilify Maintena
Aripiprazole is used for several mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions. Which ones depend on the product and form.
Oral products (tablets, orally disintegrating tablets and oral solution) are used for schizophrenia, manic and mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder, add-on treatment of major depressive disorder, irritability with autistic disorder, and Tourette's disorder. Opipza dissolving oral film is approved for schizophrenia (ages 13 and older), add-on treatment of major depressive disorder in adults, and irritability with autistic disorder and Tourette's disorder (ages 6 and older). Long-acting injections (Abilify Asimtufii, Abilify Maintena, Aristada, Aristada Initio) are for adults. Abilify Asimtufii and Abilify Maintena treat schizophrenia and are used as maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder. Aristada treats schizophrenia, and Aristada Initio is used with oral aripiprazole to start Aristada.
