GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS
Why this applies to Meprobamate
Meprobamate falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for meprobamate: your body partly clears it by attaching a sugar molecule to it (a process called glucuronidation, handled by UGT enzymes). A compound in breadfruit leaf (artocarpin) was shown in a lab dish to slow these enzymes down. In theory, slower clearance could let meprobamate build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, slowed breathing, or feeling unusually foggy or unsteady.
I want to be straight with you, though: this is only test-tube evidence, and nothing like it has actually shown up in people. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to cause any of this. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger question mark. If you're using any breadfruit product, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
