Broccoli + Dexamethasone
Dexamethasone brand names: Decadron, Hexadrol, Dexone, Ozurdex, Dexycu, and others.
We found no known interaction between Broccoli and Dexamethasone in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Broccoli and Dexamethasone
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Dexamethasone and Broccoli in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Broccoli safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Dexamethasone
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Dexamethasone is filed under 8 classifications — including corticosteroids, cytochrome p450 2b6 (cyp2b6) substrates, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) inducers. Broccoli has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) substrates (moderate) and cytochrome p450 2a6 (cyp2a6) substrates (moderate) — and none of Dexamethasone’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Broccoli Does Interact With Other Medications
Broccoli has 187 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Dexamethasone isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Where Broccoli and Dexamethasone Sit Against Everything Else
Out of every supplement and medication people look up on HelloPharmacist, here is where these two land this week — and which way each has been moving.

Where does our data come from?
- Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions.
- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Broccoli reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 13, 2026. The Broccoli and Dexamethasone records this page draws on were last updated July 10, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Broccoli
What is Broccoli?
- General nutrition and antioxidant support
- Heart and digestive health
- Detoxification support
- Cancer risk reduction (popular interest)
- Blood sugar support
Broccoli is a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamins, and plant compounds like sulforaphane that have drawn scientific interest for health benefits. Eating broccoli as food is safe and healthy for most people, but concentrated supplements and extracts are less studied and benefits are not firmly proven. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using broccoli supplements, especially in high doses.
Brassica oleracea var. italica · Brassicaceae · Florets, sprouts, seeds, and stalks · Whole vegetable (fresh, frozen, cooked), broccoli sprouts, powders, capsules, and sulforaphane or glucoraphanin extracts
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Broccoli is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Broccoli record says about it on its own.
Broccoli: dosing
There is no official or standardized supplement dose for broccoli. As a food, broccoli can simply be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet. For broccoli sprout and sulforaphane products, the amount of active compound varies a lot between brands, and a proven effective dose has not been established.

About Dexamethasone
What Is Dexamethasone Used For?
Brand names: Decadron, Hexadrol, Dexone, Ozurdex, Dexycu, Hemady, Dextenza
Dexamethasone is used to treat a wide range of conditions depending on the form and route. Oral tablets and solutions treat severe allergic reactions (such as asthma, contact dermatitis, and seasonal allergic rhinitis), inflammatory skin diseases, endocrine disorders including adrenal insufficiency and congenital adrenal hyperplasia, gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis and regional enteritis, blood disorders, rheumatic conditions, kidney disease, and respiratory conditions including tuberculosis complications. Hemady (oral tablet) is specifically approved, in combination with other medicines, for multiple myeloma in adults. TaperDex (6-day and 12-day oral tablet packs) are used for the same broad range of allergic, inflammatory, and endocrine conditions.
Injectable forms (intramuscular and intravenous) are used when oral treatment is not possible, covering endocrine emergencies, shock, rheumatic disorders, and more. Eye-specific products treat different conditions: Dextenza (intracanalicular insert) treats eye inflammation and pain after eye surgery and itching from allergic conjunctivitis. Ozurdex (intravitreal implant) treats macular edema from retinal vein occlusion and diabetic macular edema, and non-infectious uveitis in the back of the eye. Dexycu (intraocular injection) treats inflammation after eye surgery. Maxidex (ophthalmic suspension) and dexamethasone sodium phosphate eye drops treat steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye. The ophthalmic/otic solution also treats steroid-responsive inflammation of the outer ear canal. A topical ointment (Seacall) is used for skin conditions including contact dermatitis, eczema, and neurodermatitis.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Dexamethasone

Dexamethasone Is Linked to Lower Levels of 8 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Dexamethasone as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Broccoli — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
