Bulbine Natalensis + Beclomethasone
Beclomethasone brand names: Beclovent, Vanceril.
Beclomethasone falls into 2 drug categories that Bulbine Natalensis can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Bulbine Natalensis interacts with whole categories of medication. Beclomethasone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Bulbine Natalensis in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Beclomethasone
Beclomethasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces CYP3A4 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates, but this has not been studied in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your asthma inhaler. Beclomethasone is processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies suggest Bulbine natalensis may speed that enzyme up. In theory, a faster enzyme could clear the steroid a bit quicker, which might make it slightly less effective at keeping your airways calm. That could mean more wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness if your asthma control slips.
I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube and animal work, never confirmed in people. Inhaled beclomethasone also works mostly right in your lungs, so the effect on a small swallowed amount may be minor. Still, with asthma I'd rather you be safe. Loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and never change your inhaler on your own.

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Beclomethasone also falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces p-glycoprotein mRNA expression; however, effects on transporter expression were not evaluated.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture: this concern is very theoretical. In lab dish studies, Bulbine natalensis appeared to increase the activity of a transporter called p-glycoprotein, which acts like a pump that moves certain drugs around the body. Beclomethasone is one of those drugs that interacts with this pump. If the pump speeds up, it could, in theory, push more of the drug out and slightly lower how much stays active.
The good news is that beclomethasone in your inhaler works right where you need it, in your airways, so a small change in body-wide levels likely won't make a real difference in your asthma control. This is based only on test-tube data, not people. Still, since Bulbine itself raises liver and kidney safety questions, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before trying it.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Beclomethasone page
“Most people on beclomethasone (Beclovent, Vanceril) use it daily to keep asthma or nasal allergies quiet, and plenty also take herbal products, which is where this list earns real caution. Of the 202 ingredients on this page, four rate major, and those deserve your attention ahead of everything else.”

About Bulbine Natalensis
What is Bulbine Natalensis?
- Boosting testosterone
- Improving libido
- Muscle building and athletic performance
- General male vitality
Bulbine natalensis is a South African plant marketed mainly as a testosterone-boosting and libido supplement, but the human evidence is essentially absent and most claims come from animal studies. Animal research has also raised concerns about possible liver and kidney harm at higher doses, so caution is warranted. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it.
About Beclomethasone Oral Inhalation
What Is Beclomethasone Oral Inhalation Used For?
Brand names: Beclovent, Vanceril
Beclomethasone dipropionate HFA inhalation aerosol (brand: Qvar Redihaler) is used for the ongoing, daily management of asthma in adults and children 5 years of age and older. It is a preventive (maintenance) therapy — not a rescue inhaler — meaning it helps control asthma over time rather than treating sudden symptoms.
Important: Qvar Redihaler is not for the relief of sudden asthma attacks or acute bronchospasm. Always keep a separate fast-acting (rescue) inhaler on hand for those moments.
