Vincristine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.

Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces CYP3A4 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates, but this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Your body clears vincristine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, Bulbine natalensis seemed to rev that enzyme up (an inducer). If that happened in a real person, your body might break vincristine down faster, which could lower its levels and possibly make this important chemotherapy work less well against the cancer it's treating.

I want to be honest: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, never confirmed in people. Still, vincristine is serious chemo, and you never want to risk weakening it or upsetting its careful dosing. Please don't start Bulbine on your own. Run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first, especially since this supplement also raises liver and kidney safety questions.

Here's the short version on combining Bulbine natalensis with vincristine. Vincristine is moved around and pushed out of cells by a tiny pump called P-glycoprotein. Our database flags a theoretical concern that Bulbine might affect that pump. The catch is that the lab data point in opposite directions: the description mentions it could raise vincristine levels, while the actual in vitro finding suggests it may increase the pump (which would push more drug out and lower levels). Honestly, we can't say for sure which way it goes.

Because this rests only on test-tube research, the real-world risk is unclear. But vincristine is serious chemotherapy with side effects like nerve tingling, constipation, and low blood counts, and any shift up or down matters. Please don't add this supplement without first clearing it with your oncology team.

What Is Vincristine Injection Used For?

Vincristine Sulfate Injection is approved to treat acute leukemia. It is also used as part of combination chemotherapy regimens for Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphomas, rhabdomyosarcoma (a soft-tissue cancer), neuroblastoma (a cancer of nerve tissue), and Wilms' tumor (a kidney cancer in children).

Because it works best alongside other cancer medicines, vincristine is almost always given as part of a multi-drug treatment plan rather than on its own.
