Calcium D-glucarate and Chloroquine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Chloroquine and Calcium D-glucarate in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Chloroquine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Chloroquine is filed under 4 classifications — including cytochrome p450 2d6 (cyp2d6) inhibitors, seizure threshold lowering drugs, oral drugs. Calcium D-glucarate has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being alcohol (ethanol) (moderate), glucuronidated drugs (moderate) and kanamycin (minor) — and none of Chloroquine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Chloroquine page

“Chloroquine treats and prevents malaria, and that is precisely why its interaction list earns genuine caution, because if a supplement keeps the drug from being fully absorbed, the infection itself can win. Of the 29 supplements and herbs on file, the dominant theme is reduced absorption, and both major-rated entries, activated charcoa…”

Calcium D-glucarate

About Chloroquine

What Is Chloroquine Used For?

Brand names: Aralen Phosphate, Aralen Phosphate Injection, Aralen HCL, Avloclor, Malarivon, Nivaquine

Chloroquine Phosphate tablets are used to treat uncomplicated malaria caused by susceptible strains of P. falciparum, P. malariae, P. ovale, and P. vivax. They are also used to prevent malaria when traveling to areas where chloroquine-resistant strains are not present.

Chloroquine Phosphate tablets are also approved for extraintestinal amebiasis — an infection with Entamoeba histolytica that has spread outside the intestines, such as to the liver. Important limitations apply: these tablets are not for complicated malaria, not for use in regions where chloroquine resistance is widespread, and they do not prevent malaria relapses caused by P. vivax or P. ovale without an additional medicine.
