Theoretically, concomitant use of camphor with other hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
There have been a few case reports of transient elevations in liver enzymes in adults after oral or topical use of camphor. There has also been one case of hepatotoxicity in an infant after topical camphor use.

Here's the gist with Binimetinib (Mektovi): this cancer medicine can be tough on the liver on its own, which is why your oncology team checks your liver enzymes regularly during treatment. Camphor, in rare cases, has also been linked to temporary bumps in liver enzymes, whether it was swallowed or rubbed on the skin. The worry is that stacking two things that may stress the liver could, in theory, add up.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on how these work, not something proven to happen with this exact pairing. Still, since liver health really matters on binimetinib, it's worth a quick word with your oncologist or pharmacist before using any camphor rub, and of course never swallow camphor, as that can be toxic.

What Is Binimetinib Used For?

Brand name: Mektovi

Mektovi (binimetinib) is used in combination with another medicine called encorafenib. Together, they treat unresectable (cannot be surgically removed) or metastatic (spread to other parts of the body) melanoma in patients whose tumors have a BRAF V600E or V600K mutation, as confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Mektovi, used with encorafenib, is also approved for adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that carries a BRAF V600E mutation, again confirmed by an FDA-approved test. In both cases, testing for the specific mutation is required before starting treatment.
