Fingolimod falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Camphor interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of camphor with other hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
There have been a few case reports of transient elevations in liver enzymes in adults after oral or topical use of camphor. There has also been one case of hepatotoxicity in an infant after topical camphor use.

Here's the simple version: fingolimod (Gilenya) can be a little hard on the liver, which is why your doctor checks your liver enzymes before you start and along the way. Camphor, in rare cases, has also been linked to short-lived bumps in liver enzymes, even from rubbing it on the skin. The worry is that stacking two things that can stress the liver might add up.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's mostly theoretical, based on a handful of case reports, not strong proof. Occasional use of a camphor rub for a sore muscle is unlikely to cause real trouble. Still, since fingolimod already needs liver monitoring, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or MS doctor before using camphor products regularly. And never swallow camphor, it's toxic that way.

What Is Fingolimod Used For?

Brand names: Gilenya, Tascenso ODT

Fingolimod — available as capsules (Fingolimod, Fingolimod Hydrochloride, and Gilenya) and as an orally disintegrating tablet (Tascenso ODT) — is approved for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in patients 10 years of age and older. This includes clinically isolated syndrome (a first MS episode), relapsing-remitting MS (the most common type with flare-ups and periods of stability), and active secondary progressive MS (a later stage where disability gradually worsens but relapses still occur).

All supported formulations share these same approved uses. The goal of treatment is to reduce the frequency of relapses and slow disease activity.
