Nifedipine falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Camphor interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of camphor with other hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
There have been a few case reports of transient elevations in liver enzymes in adults after oral or topical use of camphor. There has also been one case of hepatotoxicity in an infant after topical camphor use.

Here's the gist with nifedipine and camphor: this isn't about camphor changing how your blood pressure medicine works. It's that both can, in theory, be a little tough on the liver. Camphor has been tied to a handful of reports of temporary bumps in liver enzymes, and nifedipine is also processed by the liver. Put two liver-stressors together and the worry is a slightly higher chance of liver irritation.

I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern built on pharmacology and a few case reports, not solid proof. Normal topical use of a camphor rub is unlikely to cause trouble for most people. Just never swallow camphor, and watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, or belly pain. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before regular use.

What Is Nifedipine Used For?

Brand names: Procardia XL, Adalat PA, Adalat, Nifedin, Nifed PA, Nifed, Procardia, Adalat XL, Adalat CC, Adalat LA, Adalat Retard, Adipine MR, Adipine XL, Cardilate MR, Coracten SR, Coracten XL, Fortipine LA 40, Hypolar Retard 20, Nifedipress MR, Nifopress Retard, Tensipine MR

Nifedipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic stable angina (chest pain brought on by physical effort), and vasospastic angina (chest pain caused by spasm of the coronary arteries, sometimes called Prinzmetal's angina). Lowering blood pressure with nifedipine helps reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

The capsule form is approved for vasospastic angina and chronic stable angina only — it is not approved for high blood pressure. The extended-release tablet (including Procardia) covers all three uses: vasospastic angina, chronic stable angina, and high blood pressure.
