Doxycycline falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Camphor interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of camphor with other hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
There have been a few case reports of transient elevations in liver enzymes in adults after oral or topical use of camphor. There has also been one case of hepatotoxicity in an infant after topical camphor use.

Here's the gist for camphor and doxycycline: both can, on rare occasions, put a little stress on the liver. Doxycycline isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about camphor changing how the drug is activated. It's simply that two things that can each nudge liver enzymes upward might, in theory, add up if used together.

I want to be honest about how soft this concern is. It's theoretical, drawn from a handful of case reports of temporary liver enzyme bumps after camphor use. Properly used topical camphor rubs are unlikely to cause trouble for most people. The real danger with camphor is swallowing it, which is genuinely toxic and should never happen. If you notice yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness while on doxycycline, call your pharmacist or doctor.

It can be helpful for these uses when applied to the skin in small, regulated amounts, but it is toxic and potentially deadly if swallowed, so it should never be taken by mouth. Doxycycline belongs to the tetracycline family of antibiotics. It's prescribed for many types of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tick-borne illnesses like Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and eye infections. It's also used to help prevent malaria and, in some cases, as a helper treatment for severe acne.

In situations where penicillin-type antibiotics can't be used — due to allergy, for example — doxycycline can step in as an alternative. It should only be used for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
