Fluconazole falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Camphor interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of camphor with other hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
There have been a few case reports of transient elevations in liver enzymes in adults after oral or topical use of camphor. There has also been one case of hepatotoxicity in an infant after topical camphor use.

Here's the connection: fluconazole can occasionally be tough on the liver, and camphor has its own (mostly theoretical) reputation for stressing the liver too. The worry is that stacking two things that lean on your liver could, in theory, raise the chance of liver irritation. We're talking about higher liver enzymes, or rarely symptoms like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or feeling unusually tired.

Honestly, this is a low-key concern. The evidence is theoretical, built from just a handful of case reports. Rubbing a small amount of a regulated camphor product on sore muscles is very unlikely to cause trouble with your fluconazole. Never swallow camphor, though, since it's toxic by mouth. If you'll be on fluconazole a while, just give your pharmacist or doctor a quick heads-up.

Camphor is a strong-smelling compound from the camphor tree (or made synthetically) that is used in many topical rub-on products for muscle aches, itching, and chest congestion. It can be helpful for these uses when applied to the skin in small, regulated amounts, but it is toxic and potentially deadly if swallowed, so it should never be taken by mouth. Keep camphor products away from children and check with a pharmacist before use.

About Fluconazole

What Is Fluconazole Used For?

Brand names: Diflucan, Diflucan Injection

Fluconazole treats infections caused by Candida and Cryptococcus fungi. Diflucan tablets and oral suspension, fluconazole tablets, and fluconazole oral suspension and tablets are approved for vaginal yeast infections (vaginal candidiasis), mouth and throat yeast infections (oropharyngeal candidiasis), and esophageal candidiasis. All formulations, including the intravenous injection, are used for cryptococcal meningitis (a fungal infection of the brain lining). In smaller studies, fluconazole was also effective for Candida urinary tract infections, peritonitis (abdominal lining infection), and serious systemic infections such as candidemia (Candida in the bloodstream) and disseminated candidiasis.

Fluconazole is also used as preventive therapy: Diflucan, fluconazole tablets, fluconazole oral suspension, and fluconazole injection are all indicated to reduce the risk of candidiasis in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation who receive chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. Note that the oral suspension formulations are not approved for vaginal candidiasis — that indication applies only to Diflucan tablets/suspension and fluconazole tablets/tablet-suspension products.
