Theoretically, concomitant use of camphor with other hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
There have been a few case reports of transient elevations in liver enzymes in adults after oral or topical use of camphor. There has also been one case of hepatotoxicity in an infant after topical camphor use.

Here's the gist for belinostat (Beleodaq), your lymphoma infusion. This medicine is processed by your liver and can stress it, sometimes raising liver enzymes. Camphor, the cooling ingredient in many rub-on muscle and chest products, has rarely been linked to short-lived bumps in liver enzymes too. The worry is simply that two things that can tax the liver might add up.

I want to be honest: this concern is theoretical, based on how each works, not on real cases of the two together. Normal topical use of a camphor rub is unlikely to cause trouble, and you should never swallow camphor. Still, since your care team is already watching your liver labs closely on belinostat, give your oncology pharmacist a quick heads-up before using camphor products.

Camphor is a strong-smelling compound from the camphor tree (or made synthetically) that is used in many topical rub-on products for muscle aches, itching, and chest congestion. It can be helpful for these uses when applied to the skin in small, regulated amounts, but it is toxic and potentially deadly if swallowed, so it should never be taken by mouth. Keep camphor products away from children and check with a pharmacist before use.

What Is Belinostat Injection Used For?

Brand name: Beleodaq

Beleodaq (belinostat) injection is approved to treat adult patients with relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) — a fast-growing type of lymphoma (blood cancer) that either came back after treatment or never fully responded to it.

This approval is based on how well the cancer responded to the drug, including how long those responses lasted. Whether Beleodaq extends overall survival or improves disease-related symptoms has not yet been established. Continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory trial.
